Abstract | PDF (Tiếng Việt)
Nowadays, wind turbine generators are being developed and widely used in many countries around the world. However, there is not much research about wind turbine in Vietnam, specifically the direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). Therefore, this paper is to demonstrate the operation of a 2 MW direct-drive wind turbine using a permanent magnet synchronous generator to assist other researchers to gain more knowledge about this type of generator. First of all, the structure and operating principle of a PMSG wind turbine are presented. The controllers will be then designed. The simulation results based on PSIM software with different wind conditions will demonstrate the operation of the PMSG wind turbine and the performance of the designed controllers.

Abstract | PDF (Tiếng Việt)
This paper presents a method for building a controller of a 3-axis robotic arm model from Fischertechnik. Autodesk Inventor software was used to draw the 3D model of the arm which was then converted to the model in Matlab (for controller design and simulation) via SimMechanics link toolbox. Feedback control as well as forward and inverse kinematics were applied to control positions of joints and gripper respectively. The arm has been integrated camera to perform color classification based on LabVIEW’s image processing library. A Human Machine Interface (HMI) was also designed using LabVIEW that allows operators to control and supervise the model in operation. The experimental results show that the robotic arm model can move to desired positions with low error (

Methods to detect anomalies in optical remote sensing images for search and rescue

Nguyen Van Phuong, Cao Thi Vinh, Tong Minh Duc, Dao Khanh Hoai
Abstract | PDF (Tiếng Việt)
Research on human survival after a plane crash shows that victims are 10% less likely to survive if the rescue is delayed by more than 2 days, and the survival rate is up to 60% if the rescue is made timely within 8 hours (Xuân Đông, 2014). The same urgency also applies to maritime emergency situations or on land. Therefore, the time to find victims and rescue organizations is a decisive factor for the success of that campaign. To reduce the search time, an increasingly commonly used approach is to detect anomalies in high-resolution remote sensing images. In addition, the size of the missing person or object of interest is very small compared to the scene and is easily mixed with the terrain. Therefore, it is necessary to have methods to automatically locate objects that help improve the performance and speed of searching. In this paper, several methods of detecting anomalies in remote sensing images will be presented to solve the problem mentioned above.

Abstract | PDF (Tiếng Việt)
The study was carried out to evaluate the AAO treatment process to eliminate the organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus to the optimum values, while surveying some suitable operating parameters for biogas effluent treatment to reach the permitted discharge standards. The study was conducted on the laboratory scale AAO model of 42 L. When operating the AAO unit with the inlet wastewater concentration of COD, TKN and TP were 983.53 ± 14.80 mg/L, 134.73 ± 4.20 mg/L and 39.63 ± 2.15 mg/L, the average organic loading rate of 1.12 kg BOD/m3.day-1, the outlet wastewater reaches QCVN 62-MT:2016/BTNMT and QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT (column A) with treatment efficiency of COD, TKN, TP were 90.05%, 89.12% and 93.21% respectively. At the retention time of 9 hours, the average organic loading rate of 1.25 kg BOD/m3.day-1, the concentration of BOD5 and COD from effluent only reaches column B of QCVN 62-MT:2016/BTNMT. The research results show that it needs 10 hours hydraulic retention time of AAO unit to treat effluent from biogas plant to reach the discharge standards of organic and nutrient parameters.

Abstract | PDF (Tiếng Việt)
A total of 112 species belonging to 60 genera, 38 families and 17 orders in three classes of Porifera phylum were identified in the coastal region of the Con Co island in 2013-2014. In which, the soft sponge class Demospongiae had 109 species (accounting for 97,32% of total species) in 57 genera, 35 families, 14 orders. The class Calcarea had 2 species (accounting for 1,79%) and the class Homoscleromorpha had only 1 species (accounting for 0,89%). Sponges species were widely distributed in the range of 0-21 m from the coast, and mostly in the depth of 3-10 m. The Bray-Curtis similarity index for the distribution of sponges was divided into 7 groups with 75% of similarity among research stations. The distribution of sponges possesses a close relationship with the substrate types. The average coverage of sponges on the subtrates was about 3.13%. The rocky subtrate has the highest coverage of 51.6%. In general, the sponges covered relatively evenly on the subtrate, and this distribution of sponges did not show a close correlation with other component on the subtrates.

An analysis of the association of cancer and food components

Tran Thanh Thao
Abstract | PDF (Tiếng Việt)
There are increasing number of cancer deaths worldwide, motivating more studies to find solutions for the prevention of cancer. Although some of cancer diseases are attributed to gene inherited from parents, most of other cancers are formed from an interaction between gene and environmental factors, including physical, chemical and biological agents. Food is accounted to 30% of risk factors that cause cancer. Food can contribute to the formation of cancer through three mechanisms: epigenetic factors, DNA damage-caused by oxidative stress and mutagenesis. In contrast, some of food containing bioactive compounds are able to prevent or minimize above cancer-induced mechanisms. This paper is to analyze molecular mechanisms of food driving cancer and summarize some food components that can support or prevent the process of cancer development. From such analysis, some notifications to maintain healthy diets and lifestyle in the prevention of cancer thread are also suggested.

Abstract | PDF (Tiếng Việt)
The study was conducted to determine the allelopathic activities of eight rice (Oryza sativa L.) varieties OM (2395, 3536, 4498, 5451, 5930, 6976, 7347 and N406) by applying their methanol (MeOH) extracts on barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli L.) and watercress (Lepidium sativum) at  different concentration ranges (0.01, 0.03, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0 g/mL). The shoot and root length of barnyardgrass and watercress were recorded after 48 hours of incubation at 250C. The results showed that the extract from OM 5930 had inhibitory rates on the shoot and root length of barnyardgrass and watercress higher than that from other varieties. At 0.3 grams per milliliter, the OM 5930 extract inhibited 100% of watercress shoot and root length while the extracts of other OM rice varieties only achieved inhibition rates from 76.14% to 91.97%. For barnyardgrass, the dose of OM 5930 extract requiring for over 50% of inhibition (57.39% for shoot and 66.93% for root length) is 0.3 grams per milliliter; 98.77% for shoot and 99.39% for root length at a concentration of 1.0 grams per milliliter. This result indicated that OM 5930 rice variety may be used as a priority in rice allelopathy research program or in the program of breeding weed suppressing rice varieties to reach an environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture.

Abstract | PDF (Tiếng Việt)
The study was conducted to investigate the variation of density and composition of bacteria in mud in My Thanh river including the upper part (Nhu Gia), middle part (My Thanh 1), and lower part (My Thanh 2). Mud samples were collected once a month from July 2017 to June 2018 at low tide. Bacteria density was determined by plate counting. The results indicated that the total bacterial population was at its peak in Nhu Gia (5,3×104 CFU/g), and at the lowest in My Thanh 2 (5,3×104 CFU/g), and it tended to decrease from January to June. Bacillus and Lactobacillus density was high in Nhu Gia and low in My Thanh 2. Bacillus density was stable throughout the months of the year at all 3 sampling sites, but the density decreased when salinity increased. In My Thanh 2, Bacillus density was proved significantly lower than in Nhu Gia; specifically, in May (8.3 × 103 CFU/g) in My Thanh 2 versus (1,9 × 106 CFU/g) in Nhu Gia. Lactobacillus had the lowest density (3.4 × 102 CFU/g) in June and the highest (2.7 × 105 CFU/mL) in February. Besides, the total Vibrio density tended to increase with the rise of salinity during the year and exceeded 103CFU/g in My Thanh 2. The density of V. harveyi, V. parahaemolyticus in My Thanh 2 and My Thanh 1 was higher than Nhu Gia’s. The higher the salinity, the greater the concentration of Vibrio, V. harvey and V. parahaemolyticus and it may lead to risk for animals.

An analysis of teaching and learning the subject “Basic principles of Marxism - Leninnism” at Can Tho University

Le Ngoc Triet, Phan Thi Phuong Anh
Abstract | PDF (Tiếng Việt)
Over the last ten years, teaching and learning the three different components of Marxism-Leninism, namely Philosophy, Political Economy and Scientific Socialism has experienced a significant change. This mainly relates to the fact that these integral parts were combined and renamed as a new subject ‘The Basic Principles of Marxism-Leninism’. This combination causes three issues: (1) trivialisation of the science; (2) lack of in-depth academic research; and (3) deskillingand unsustained teaching career in Marxism - Leninism.  As a result, the outcomes of the integrated subject have been unlikely achieved owing to the majority of instructors’ absence of self-confidence in teaching and relaxing evaluative criteria of students’ learning outcomes. Additionally, learners have gained less incentive in studying, attended the classes less frequently and devalued political sciences. Several solutions were proposed to improve the quality of learning the subject in the context of Can Tho University.
