Abstract

A mixed culture of two bacterial strains, Pseudomonas sp. Pre2 (a pretilachlor-degrading bacterial strain) and Acinetobacter sp. F0 (a fenclorim-degrading bacterial strain) was investigated for their degradation abilities in a mineral medium, water collected from a rice field, and a saline canal. The degradation of pretilachlor and fenclorim added in water collected from the rice field by non-immobilized bacteria was 61.9±4.8% and 50.9±6.6% after 8 hours, respectively, while the degradation by immobilized bacteria was 89.9±2.2% and 80.6±4.4%, respectively. The degradation was also carried out in a packed bed reactor to enhance the efficiency of the bacteria. In addition, the dried alginate beads, which were stored for three months, still degraded both active ingredients effectively.
