Abstract

This study evaluated the hepatoprotective and nephroprotective effects of the extract obtained from the extracellular supernatant of Bacillus sp. DO-R5 (OBaDO-R5) in a carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced toxicity model. Mus musculus var. albino mice were divided into 6 groups: a normal control group, a CCl4-intoxicated group, a silymarin-treated group (16 mg/kg), and OBaDO-R5-treated groups (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg) administered orally for 28 days. After the treatment period, serum samples were collected to analyze hepatic injury markers (alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase) and renal markers (urea, creatinine). The results showed that CCl4 markedly increased these indicators compared with the control group (p<0.05), whereas treatment with OBaDO-R5 significantly improved them in a dose-dependent manner. OBaDO-R5 also reduced oxidative stress by decreasing malondialdehyde, restoring glutathione levels in the liver and kidneys. These findings suggest that OBaDO-R5 has potential for application in the prevention and supportive treatment of liver and kidney disorders associated with oxidative stress.
