Abstract

The study was conducted to assess the current status of plastic waste generation in rice cultivation in Phong Thanh Dong commune, Gia Rai town, Bac Lieu province, by field surveys and direct interviews with farmers. The research results showed that the amount of plastic waste is mainly generated from using fertilizers and pesticides with a volume of about 1288.7 g/1,000m2/crop (12.9 kg/ha/crop). The total amount of plastic waste generated from rice cultivation in Bac Lieu province is estimated at about 2,435 tons/crop. Most of the generated plastic waste is treated by burning (93.3%), collecting (33.3%), disposed of with household waste, or discharged directly in the fields (6.7%) and burying (3.3%). However, plastic waste management in rice cultivation has not been well implemented because the methods almost pose many environmental and human health risks. Tóm tắt

Nghiên cứu được thực hiện nhằm đánh giá hiện trạng phát sinh chất thải nhựa (CTN) trong canh tác lúa tại xã Phong Thạnh Đông, thị xã Giá Rai, tỉnh Bạc Liêu bằng cách khảo sát thực địa và phỏng vấn trực tiếp nông hộ. Kết quả cho thấy khối lượng CTN phát sinh từ việc sử dụng phân bón và thuốc bảo vệ thực vật với khoảng 1288.7 g/1.000m2/vụ (12,9 kg/ha/vụ). Tổng khối lượng CTN phát sinh từ canh tác lúa tại tỉnh Bạc Liêu ước tính khoảng 2.435 tấn/vụ. Phần lớn CTN phát sinh được xử lý bằng cách đốt chiếm 93,3%, thu gom chiếm 33,3%, vứt chung với rác sinh hoạt hoặc vứt ngay tại ruộng chiếm 6,7% và chôn lấp chiếm 3,3%. Việc quản lý CTN chưa được thực hiện tốt bởi các biện pháp hầu như tiềm ẩn nhiều rủi ro. Chính quyền địa phương và cơ quan quản lý môi trường cần tuyên truyền về sự cần thiết của quản lý chất thải nhựa trong sản xuất nông nghiệp. Các nghiên cứu tiếp theo khi được thực hiện cần tập trung vào giải pháp quản lý chất thải nhựa trong canh tác lúa.
