Abstract

Intercultural communicative competence (ICC) plays an influential role in affecting students? attitudes, socio-linguistic skills and communicative competence in a variety of communicative contexts in real life (Burwitz-Melzer, 2001). It has been observed that many foreign language (English) learners have not succeeded in real communication with foreigners despite their long time of study and their rich linguistic knowledge. This would probably prohibit their work effectiveness in reality. Therefore, in order to improve the outcomes of foreign language learning, it is urgent for learners to be integratedly trained with intercultural competence on a regular basis. On researching the notion and model of ICC, this paper aimed to partly reflect the current situation of classroom practice in Vietnam learning context in regards to intercultural competence training, share professional experiences and make useful suggestions to improve the educational practices.
