The Relationship between soil diagnostic horizons and properties with Soil Fertility Capability Classification system (FCC)
Abstract
|
PDF (Tiếng Việt)
The Fertility Capability Classification (FCC) system was developed as an attempt to bridge the gap between soil classification and soil fertility. According to Sanchez et al. (2003), FCC consisted of three category levels: type (topsoil texture 0-20cm), substrata type (subsoil texture 20-50), and 17 modifiers. Class designations from the three category levels were combined to form an FCC unit. The classes within each category level were defined in. In this system, some of the properties have been directly derived from existing soil classification systems, in which some of soil diagnostic horizons, diagnostic properties, and diagnostic materials of World Reference Based system (FAO, 1998) were related, including Vertic diagnostic horizons (to modifier v), Plinthic (to modifier i), Sulfuric (to modifiers a, c), and Thionic diagnostic properties (to modifier c), Rhodic (to modifier i, i-, i+), Gleyic (to modifier g, g+), Hyposodic (to modifier n-), Hyposalic (to modifier s-) and Fluvic diagnostic material (to type and substrata type L), sulfidic (to modifier c). Besides, on intensive rice soil of the Mekong delta, some characteristics could not be found relation, such as soil texture, soil moisture (modifier d), low soil temperature (t), low CEC (modifier e), low cation reserve (k), carbon saturation (m). But, some modifiers could be found on intensive rice soils of the Mekong delta, such as modifier (r), slope (%), alkaline (b), or volcanic soil (x).
The effects of phosphate and potassium - solubilizing bacterial strains on the growth and yield of white radish, peanut, and high yielding rice cultivated on sandy soil of Tri Ton district, An Giang province
Abstract
|
PDF (Tiếng Việt)
This study is aimed to evaluate effects of three effective phosphate and potassium - solubilizing bacterial strains (Agrobacterium tumefaciens CA09, Rhizobium tropici CA29, Azotobacter tropicalis K16B) on the growth and yield of white radish, peanut, and high yielding rice cultivated on sandy soil of TriTon district, An Giang province. The experiment was conducted with 4 levels of potassium and phosphorus fertilizers (0% PK, 25% PK, 50% PK and 75% PK) combined with three isolates. The results showed that there were no significant difference in growth and component of yield of white radish, peanut, and high yielding rice among treatment 75% PK + potassium – solubilizing bacteria with positive control (100% PK). It is therefore concluded that three phosphate and potassium solubilizing bacterial strains had ability of solubization of phosphate and potassium and provided 25% amount of P and K for the growth of white radish, peanut and high yielding rice. On the other hands, three isolates increase the concentrations of available phosphate, total of nitrogen and organic matter in soil and they can be utilized to produce biofertilizers and further research is imperatively needed to evaluate their effectiveness on other plants.

Objectives of this study were to (i) determine micronutrient uptake of maize from the maize rotation with mung-bean, sesame, and green pepper; and (ii) study the distribution of Cu, Fe, Zn and Mn concentrations in different parts of maize. The on-farm research has been conducted as a completely randomized block design with six farmer’s fields in An Phu district, An Giang province. The treatments included (i) maize - maize - maize (Site-specific nutrient management); (ii) maize - mungbean - maize; (iii) maize - sesame - maize; (iv) mungbean - maize - maize; (v) mungbean - green pepper - maize; and (vi) maize - maize - maize (Farmers’ fertilizer practice) where the formula of 200 N - 90 P2O5 - 80 K2O was applied for (i) to (v) treatments for maize while 215 N - 129 P2O5 - 75 K2O for (vi) treatment. Results showed that the uptake of micronutrients from maize rotation with mung-bean, sesame, and green pepper had not been improved during three crops. The iron uptake of maize was highest while copper uptake was lowest. Cu, Fe, Mn contents were distributed into maize leaves while content of zinc was distributed mainly in grain. The Cu, Fe, Zn and Mn average removals of all treatments were 169, 2996, 408 and 240 g ha-1, respectively, in dry season on An Phu undeposited alluvial soil.
Effect of paclobutrazol and timing of thiourea foliar spray on the flowering and yield of “Tau” lime at Binh Thanh commune, Cao Lanh district, Dong Thap province
Abstract
|
PDF (Tiếng Việt)
The present study was carried out to determine the effect of doses of paclobutrazol (PBZ) and times of foliar spray of thiourea after PBZ application on flowering and yield of ‘Tau’ lime. Experiments were conducted on 7 year-old lime trees grown on the alluvial soil located at Binh Thanh commune, Cao Lanh district, Dong Thap province, from August 2014 to May 2015. Factorial complete randomized design was used with 5 replications of one tree/each. The first factor included PBZ doses, i.e. 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 g a.i./m of canopy diameter; and ‘pha la‘ – inducing leaf abscission, a flowering induction method frequently applied by growers was considered as control treatment. The second factor involved times of flowering induction via the foliar application of thiourea at 0.2%, viz. 30, 40, and 50 days after PBZ application. PBZ was applied via collar drenching. The flowering induction method applied by growers included induction of leaf abscission via foliar application of a solution of urea (4.76%) and KCl (5%); three days later, leaf abscission reduction and shoot formation were accomplished via the foliar application of 2,4-D at 40 ppm. Results showed that PBZ application at both doses, 1.0 and 1.5 g a.i./m of canopy diameter, brought in yield increases as compared to growers' method. Foliar spray of thiourea at 30 days after PBZ application caused highest flowering ratio and yield without negative effect on fruit diameter, weight, and quality.

PDF (Tiếng Việt)
An evaluation on exploiting bighead catfish (Clarias macrocephalus) in the Mekong Delta was conducted from 7/2015 to 6/2016, through direct interviews of 118 fishermen catching bighead catfish in five provinces including An Giang, Dong Thap, Long An, Hau Giang, and Ca Mau. The results showed that bighead catfish was caught mainly in rice fields (49.5% in the rainy season and 52.1% in the dry season) and in canals (15.2%). Fishing season of bighead catfish was all year round. There were 13 gears used to exploit bighead catfish, in which commonly used ones included gillnets, trap, electricity shock, trawl net, lift net and bottom trap. Sizes of fish varied in the range of 5–300 g. Yields were lower in the rainy season than in the dry one (16.4 kg/household/season and 113.5 kg/household/season, respectively). The highest yield and income (127.3 kg/household/year and 6.4 million dongs/household/year, respectively) were found in Ca Mau province. Declines in bighead catfish resources were mainly caused by small floods, closed dikes, the use of electricity shock and small mesh sizes for fishing. Currently, bighead catfish fishery has not been profitable for fishermen in the investigated areas.

A literature review on earnings management in banking industry
Abstract
|
PDF (Tiếng Việt)
This paper is aimed to provide a literature review on earnings management in banking industry through 4 research groups including accruals quality, earnings smoothing through loan loss provision, benchmark beating and external indicators of earnings misstatement. The discussion on controversial issues among previous studies helps to determine research gaps and propose direction for future research. Specifically, earnings management in banking industry in developing countries rarely dealt with by previous studies and is a fertile field for future research. Besides, whether commercial banks, especially in Asian countries, using loan loss provision to smooth earnings remains an open question. Some proxies of earnings management have also been neglected in banking industry, e.g. comparing variability of earnings and variability of cashflow.
